Your first visit to our Office

Thank you for choosing us to be your dental health care provider. We know our patients have a choice of dentists in Berkeley, so we will go out of our way to provide the level of dental care and compassion we would expect for our own family. Your comfort and satisfaction is important to us.

Radiographs (Digital x-rays)

For new patients we take a full mouth x-ray showing between the teeth checking for cavities or any other issues like gum disease or infections. Our Berkeley practice uses digital X-ray technology. Digital X-rays provide advanced imaging options designed to provide clearer and more detailed dental images, exposes patients to much less radiation than traditional X-ray technology.  A full series of x-rays consists of 18 images and takes about  10 minutes. Please have your previous dentist forward any x-rays they may have if they are less than a year old.

Intraoral camera Images

An intraoral camera is a small digital camera that we can use to photograph areas inside your mouth so that we can enlarge and share with you or a specialist, or keep for our records for future comparison. We can see a crack in your tooth, broken fillings, suspicious lesions, or  potential infections. Our patients like being able to see exactly what we see so they can more fully understand their conditions and treatment.

Your Exam

Your first exam will last about an hour including x-rays and photographs. Dr Kim will talk with you about your medical history. If you have any oral health concerns, you feel free sharing them with her.  Next, Dr Kim will examine your teeth, gums, and mouth, and review x-rays.  At the end of your exam, the Dr Kim will discuss with you your current condition and any suggested treatment. You will be given an appointment to see our hygienist at another date.  We do not do cleanings on the day of your first exam, We will schedule one for you at your earliest convenience.
